Poppies

Poppies are my absolute favourite flower. They are so delicate and stunningly beautiful. I love their wildness, the way that they just turn up in any old place they feel like but never appear where you want them to. They sing to their own tune and never fail to cheer up your day. They can be spotted in wastelands, along roadsides, in fields or if you are really lucky they will pop into your garden. When we first moved in the landlord had put down a hardcore drive and as a result we had lots of poppies grow up that year but they have never been back to visit. They seem to be hardy little souls that pop up in some of the most unlikely places and I love their unpredictability and independence. They just are and for all those reasons they are my favourite flower.

What’s your favourite flower and why?

What a wonderful post, I just imagined myself standing in a field of Poppies! For all the reasons you’ve mentioned my favourite flower has to be Poppies too. My daughter is called Poppy though so I’m probably a bit biased! Thanks for sharing #whatsthestory

I like Hardenbergia violacia, also known as the purple coral pea. It is indigenous to my home city of Melbourne, Australia and it is the first flower to bloom at the end of winter. It always fills me with hope to see it, it’s such a vibrant purple.
